Estoy Aqui

Welcome to my blog!

I´ll be working and studying in Guatemala for the next 15 weeks. Thank you for visiting. Try leaving me a comment!

Here´s a photo of me in the central square of the city I´ll be living in, Quetzaltenango. Behind me are 2 large banks that do not work.

I left my house in Chicago at 11pm Sunday night for a 2 am flight to Guatemala. After a $20 taxi (negotiate the price before getting in) and 5 hour bus ride, I arrived and settled in with my host family in time for dinner.

Peter! I'm so glad you're there and safe! Email me your address and I'll send you The Standard's "going away" gift. We'll call it a "got there" gift instead : )

Great idea on doing a blog. I look forward to reading about your trip!

Que pasa? Quetzaltenango, hmmmm. I'm gonna ask some Guatemalans at work what they know of that fine city. I've never religiously checked a blog before. The anticipation is already starting to mount for the next time I check this site. No pressure. Just a couple a pics is all we need.

Hasta luego

Don't call anybody a marano. That means fat pig.

Hola Pedro. Que esté en Guatemala también, es un buen país. ¿Xela es tan diferente que Flores, no? No sé porqué estoy escribiendo español. Voy a cambiar. Rock and roll! 15 weeks is none to shabby. Check out the hot springs and tell me what you think.

Sweet-ass-sweet, Pedro! You have to track down the the merciless peppers of Quetzlzacatenango grown deep in the jungle primeval by the inmates of a Guatemalan insane asylum. Then let me know what your vision quest was like... oo! and bring me back some!

Hey, beautiful. Have a fun, safe and enlightening trip. I expect those banks to be up and running by the time Pete-Dogg leaves town.

Hey, Peter, Andy told me last night about your new trip. I expect by the time you come back you can shout like the "chicken bus" drivers, "Guate! Guate! Guate!"

A man leaves his house in Chicago at 11 PM for a 2 AM flight to Guatemala. If taxi to the bus station cost $20, and the bus ride is 5 hours long, how will he find an ATM?

Congratulations on the start of your new adventure!! Are the banks broken, or just lazy? JEK

PETER! How the heck are you! Did you know that I spent a summer in Xela when I was 15 (that was 13 years ao, don't tell anyone). Anywho, I loved the city - the amazing colors, the people, the views, etc... Here are the 3 things I learned, I hope they help. (1) You will be on the receiving end of a dog bite. Stop being scared and accept it. (2) Don't eat the fruit from the stands - only what you buy, bleach and cut up yourself. And, finally, (3) Guatemalans eat their pizza with a nice heavy dose of ketchup on it! DO IT! You'll totally fit in!

Xela is a slice of heaven. I'm proud to know someone who is willing to give so much of themselves to others... I'm proud of you, you little studmuffin!

Keep on truckin'
