Hidden Cost of Drug Use

Drug money from the US funds a narco-trafficing organized crime syndicate in Latin America that is more powerful than most central american governments, with bribes to politicians, judges, seemingly Guatemala´s entire police force, even, perhaps entire political parties.

I didn´t even know there WAS a Latin American mafia. Turns out there not only is one, but it´s our fault.

This got big play in the NYT over the weekend, as well. They reported it as breaking news...those of us who read peterschell.blogspot.com, of course, knew of this all a week ago. Which tells you something. Namely that Peter is clearly writing to us all from The Future. Any hot stock tips?

I saw the article in the NYTimes too. It sounded like there's some pretty scarry stuff going on down there - corruption, violence, drugs, etc., so do be careful! Mum

You should check out a book Atticus lent me called "Marching Powder: A True Story of Friendship, Cocaine, and South America's Strangest Jail" by Thomas McFadden and Rusty Young. It's a great look at the strangeness and depth of corruption from a very hands-on experience.
